How to Replace an audi tt key fob not working G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Audi.jpgCharles the Humble Technician shows you how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. This sensor is situated at the edge of transmission over the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal the ECU via the grey wire (T55/49), then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

It is located on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends a signal to ECU pin T55/49 using an uncolored wire. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate the flow of fuel, timig and boost. It also sends a signal to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft has reached TDC and also the location of the camshaft in order to activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display an error code P00160 which indicates that the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft aren't in sync and possibly indicating the chain is stretched or a jump link on the upper timing chain. However, the code won't appear on its own, without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing is a bit challenging because there are two connector pins, and they have different functions but the best way to test it is to measure resistance between the sensor and the ECU. When the sensor is operational, it should be reading approximately 1000 ohms. If you're having issues with this part, check for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when accelerating from highway paytoll at full speed I noticed a massive reduction in power. It was like the engine was running out of gas. Or, my injectors weren't firing. I took out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were drenched in gasoline and the 4th was dry. I placed a tissue over each injector hole and when i start the engine with no sparks, the ones that have gazoline pop right out. The 4th one stays closed. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I found zero ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is in another location.

I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car can start if the G28 is unplugged and runs fine when it is plugged in, but still is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even when unplugged, still shows an ice temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar while the actual pressure is zero.

I don't know what to do. I believe that I've all other possibilities out. I'm concerned that i may have missed something. Let me know If you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 gets a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender and both work on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily locate the spare in a salvage shop or parts store. It is simple to test them: simply put your DMM into resistance mode and determine the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector's end facing up). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY, and ADU) engines have an ECU that has to know the speed and position of the crankshaft to make decisions regarding timing of the fuel injectors, etc. It uses a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If either of these goes bad you will get codes on the diagnostic scanner that can cause the engine to shut down.

A damaged G28 sensor audi q5 key A3 key fob [https://shorl.com/] could result in an inaccurate speed counter for your gearbox and a gearbox which shifts more quickly than normal, and/or a misfire while in the gear. If you have any of these issues, it is likely your sensor is failing and should be replaced. They're inexpensive and easy to locate especially in the case of an Bosch model like ours. Alternately, the GM version of this unit is also a good choice.

5. Tachometer

A failing engine sensor could cause a myriad of issues in your car. It's an essential component of the Audi q7 key's transmission since it relays information to the ECU about how fast or slow the car's crankshaft is rotating. This sensor could cause the transmission to malfunction and other components in the car to be affected.

The G5 engine sensor is located at the outskirts of transmission, above the flywheel ring. It transmits signals via a gray wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU then processes this signal to regulate fuel, timig and boost as well as sends it on to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can test for sensor failure by checking continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. Additionally, you can verify continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and Spare audi key pin T26a/12. There should be a resistance of approximately 1000 ohms between these points. This is a common feature across the audi spare key replacement 80-100-200-RS2 model, ranging from the 1985 MC up to the 1997 UrS An and 1995 RS2 DU So, you may find some good ones in wrecking yards.
